Gaining more performance from engine tuning can be expensive.

One of the best ways to improve your bikes performance and handling, is by reducing its weight. Normally weight reduction is also the cheapest way.

Production sportbikes might look super hightech and "perfectly engineered", but when you look closer you will find a lot of things are made from steel or other heavy metals. Some places it is needed for the strength, but a lot of places, lighter metals (like high strength aluminium) can be used instead. Steel is often used to keep production costs down.

As aluminium is 1/3 the weight of steel and in some cases has the same tensile strength (aircraft grade aluminium),  it makes sense to use it instead.

For example - On the RS250 Alitalia Replica build, we reduced the weight of the bike by 10 kilos! Just by replacing steel parts with aluminium and carbon fiber parts. Things like the subframe, clip-ons, exhausts, wheels, brakes, gas tank cap and a lot of other small things. It all adds up!

With a trackday / race bike you can go even further. Things like the headlight and ABS plastic fairings, are incredibly heavy.
